Hoad Hill Harriers Junior Championship 2018
Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers' junior section is run by UK Athletics qualified coaches. All coaching staff are DBS checked to protect the welfare of the club's junior members. The aim of the junior section is to encourage a fit and healthy life style that can endure into, and through, their adult life. The club aims to provide opportunities for junior athletes to compete with other athletes from within their peer group. Our objective is to ensure that junior athletes have fun, compete to the best of their abilities and in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
What do Hoad Hill Harrier Juniors' do?
Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers' is predominantly a running club. Our Junior section was founded back in 2008, and now has a membership of approximately 50 junior athletes. Our coaches offer a varied programme of training focussing primarily on developing fitness and improving running ability. Our core training sessions involve warm-ups, and sprint drill training to improve running technique, and a variety of interval running, and competition training. We usually have 2 or 3 groups each Wednesday, arranged by ability. The sessions are developed to suit the ability of the group, and the sessions also cater for ranges of ability within the group.
Our Junior coaches have developed a varied programme of activities that runs throughout the year. Key training modules include the following:
Spring - Fell running on Birkrigg common.
Summer - Olympic challenge events (including sprints, hurdling, shot putt, gym test, and middle distance running)
Winter - Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers are members of the Mid-Lancs Cross Country league and we encourage our Juniors to take part, and arrange for coaching staff to support junior runners at cross country events.
We also run a number of club events throughout the year, which include junior competition races.
